Some Tips For the Mother of the Bride

Monday, October 31st, 2011

Know that today’s planning team isn’t automatically the bride and her mom. You may be part of a team that includes the groom’s parents, or the bride and groom will be doing the majority of the planning on their own. So don’t go into this with huge expectations, or have your feelings hurt that you won’t be in charge of the cake. Just look forward to meeting with the bride and groom to discuss how THEY’D like their team to work together.

Make a promise to yourself, as a parent, that you’ll keep the wishes of the bride and groom paramount. Since the wedding is such an important and emotional event, it’s easy to fall into a heightened state and want more of your ideas included. Know the difference between making suggestions and forcing your opinion.

Be ready with addresses and information when the bride and groom come to you about guest list or ideas to incorporate family traditions into their wedding. When you’re asked to do anything, get back to them right away and be diligent. (more…)

Tips for You to Decorate the Mother of the Bride’s House

Sunday, October 23rd, 2011

Weddings often involve more parties and ceremonies than just the wedding itself. Many weddings have numerous dinners and gatherings leading up to the big day where friends and relatives get together with the happy couple to reminisce, give presents and talk about the couple’s future plans. When these occasions take place inside someone’s home, decorating is essential to help the event feel special. Decorating the home of the bride’s mother for wedding activities is often a joyful activity that multiple family members can take part in together.

1.Clean the house thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. Temporarily remove any items on the floors or tables that don’t need to be there and dust every surface with a rag to eliminate dust that has accumulated. Wash the floors with warm water and mild detergent to have them looking their best when guests or members of the wedding party arrive. The cleaner the house, the better the environment leading up to the wedding.

2.Hang pictures of the bride around the home. The photos should show the bride at various stages of her life, starting with childhood and leading up to her time spent thus far with the groom. (more…)

There is something about their daughter getting married that can have a very strange effect on a mother. Some take over and insist on arranging everything from the dress to the guest list, while others panic at the thought of being in the limelight on your big day.

The extent to which your mother is involved in your wedding preparations probably depends on the type of relationship you have with her, and the age at which you are getting married. Many mothers see themselves as the hostess at their daughter’s wedding, and the pressure to throw a fantastic party can lead to stress and endless arguments.

Mother of the Bride Wedding Speech1

It’s only been relatively recently that mothers of brides have begun making a mother of the bride wedding speech at their daughters’ weddings.

In years past, the father of the bride made the speech for both parents. Nowadays, a Mother of the Bride wedding speech is expected at many weddings. Since the Mother of the Bride wedding speech is fairly new, as far as wedding speeches go, there are no set rules for what it should contain.

It is, of course, expected that the mother of the bride will offer a toast to the couple at the end of her speech, but the speech itself could be tailored to fit each individual mother’s design. For many mothers of brides however, the very fact that there aren’t any hard and fast rules is daunting in itself, and causes plenty of anxiety when it comes time to write the speech.

One mother mentioned that she’d helped her husband write three Father of the Bride speeches when their three older daughters married. She joked that she could write a Father of the Bride speech in her sleep, as familiar as she was with what that particular wedding speech should contain. (more…)

Terrington St Clement bride-to-be taken to wedding in armoured vehicle

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Bride-to-be Melanie Garner couldn’t make up her mind about the best mode of transport to get her to the church on time for her big day.

Melanie and James Taylor with the armoured vehicle

She thought about a white limo, a vintage Rolls-Royce, or maybe a traditional horse and carriage.

And then the mother of the bride suggested Melanie could have a military vehicle, since her sweetheart, James Taylor, was serving with 38 Engineer Regiment of the British Army in Northern Ireland.

Melanie, 26, said: “At first I said it was a silly idea, but then the more I thought about it, the more I thought it was exactly what I wanted because it was so unusual.”

And Melanie, from Terrington St Clement, said her new husband, who was shot in the arm while on active service in Afghanistan, liked the idea straightaway.

“He wanted something like a tank because he didn’t want to wear a dress uniform as everyone else was going to be in tails, so a military vehicle would help underline our connection to the armed forces,” she explained.

The couple contacted King’s Lynn military enthusiast Shaun Mitchell, who said he would drive the bride to St Clement’s parish church in her home village in his FV432 armoured personnel carrier. (more…)
